Cogeneration Relaying
Reedy Creek Energy Services, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, 2005:
Upgrade of entire cogeneration and associated 12.47kV protective relay systems. Relaying included: dual generator protection for one 60MW gas turbine and one 5MW steam turbine, transformer protection with primary and backup, bus differential protection and protection and control for multiple 12.47kV feeders. Design of AC three- lines, DC schematics and all relay calculations and settings. On-site assistance for checkout, testing and commissioning.
69kV System Relay Upgrades
Reedy Creek Energy Services, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, 1993-Present:
Upgrade of entire 69kV relaying for seven existing substations, design of entire 69kV relaying for one new substation. Relaying includes: line relaying using fiber optic differential with microprocessor distance backup and reclosing relaying for the 69kV transmission lines. Bus differential protection, transformer protection with primary and backup, breaker control, breaker failure and synch check for each breaker, and capacitor protection and control. Complete system relay coordination and setting studies using Aspen OneLiner and PowerFlow, as well as implementation and testing for all substations on the 69kV system. Prepared a complete set of operating manuals for all substations. Conducted a four day protective relaying application course, as well as on-site training during checkout and testing of all designed relaying systems.
Roseville Energy Park
City of Roseville, Roseville, California, 2004-2005:
Complete design of 69kV relay and breaker control systems for a breaker and a half substation with four transmission lines and four generator line feeds, including line relaying, reclosing, synch check, transformer differential, breaker failure, bus differential, SCADA, and generation plant interface.
Transformer Relaying Upgrades
Empire Electric Association, Cortez, Colorado, 2004:
Transformer relay upgrade, primary and backup, for three 115/12.47kV substations. Design of AC three-lines, DC schematics and all relay calculations and settings. On site assistance for checkout, testing and commissioning.
Fiddyment Substation
City of Roseville, Roseville, California, 1996 and 2004:
Design of relaying and control schemes for a 230-60kV substation, including complete drawing package consisting of single line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams, DC breaker control and line relaying schematics, bus and transformer differential relaying, and panel and equipment wiring diagrams. Followup design of major substation additions to the 60kV bus.
Substation Relay Upgrades
City of Fort Morgan, Colorado, 2003:
Two 115-12.47kV, 20MVA substations, complete relaying coordination, calculations and setting, control, testing, and checkout for the substation. Work also included design of complete SCADA system for all substations.
Hopkins Power Plant Substation 230kV Relay Upgrade
City of Tallahassee, Florida, 2002:
Design consisted of upgrading and replacing 230kV line relaying for two transmission lines, and transformer protection for two 66MVA 230/115kV autotransformers. Existing drawings were as-built to prepare for design and construction modifications. The complete drawing package included single line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams, DC control and relaying schematics, and relay panel and equipment wiring diagrams and cable schedules.
National Wind Technology Center
National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, Colorado, 1998:
Design and specification of a new 13-breaker 13.2kV switchgear building. Relay settings, coordination, testing, and checkout for the complete 13.2kV system, including generation interconnection for wind turbines. Harmonic study for wind turbine and variable-frequency drives at the wind site.
