Planning and Study Projects
69kV Relay System Upgrade
Reedy Creek Energy Services, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, 1993-Present:
Complete system relay coordination and setting study, as well as implementation and testing for all substations on the 69kV system. Load flow, short circuit, and capacitor switching sequence study using Aspen OneLiner and PowerFlow on the Florida State Grid Model.
Four Year Construction Work Plan
San Isabel Electric Association, Pueblo, Colorado, 2007
Preparation of RUS Four Year Construction Work Plan and Environmental Report. Developed system model with US Map and imported maps into Milsoft Windmil for analysis. Performed analysis of existing system and pinpointed system upgrade requirements. Identified capital expenditures for improvements to the existing system and developed maps for their implementation. Coordinated with state and federal agencies to minimize impacts of the planned construction.
Four Year Construction Work Plan
Carbon Power and Light, Saratoga, Wyoming, 2005:
Prepared the RUS Four Year Construction Work Plan and Borrower’s Environmental Report. Updated system model using Milsoft WindMil; analyzed the performance of existing facilities with respect to capacity and system reliability. Identified capital expenditures for improvements to existing facilities and new construction necessary to provide reliable service to customers. Coordinated with several state and federal agencies to minimize environmental impacts of the planned construction.
Four Year Construction Work Plans
Wheatland REA, Wyoming, 1997, 2001, 2004:
Prepared the RUS Four Year Construction Work Plans and Borrower’s Environmental Reports for the last three four-year periods. Created system model using Milsoft WindMil; analyzed the performance of existing and planned facilities as to capacity, voltage drop, and sectionalizing. Created planning estimates for improvements to facilities and new construction necessary to provide reliable service to customers. Corresponded with federal and state agencies to evaluate and minimize potential environmental and historical impacts of the planned construction.
Four Year Construction Work Plan
Empire Electric Association, Cortez, Colorado, 2005:
Assisted in preparation of the RUS Four Year Construction Work Plan and Borrower’s Environmental Report, including correspondence with applicable state and federal agencies.
Kinder Morgan Trailblazer Compressor Stations 601, 602, and 603, Colorado and Nebraska, 2000-2002:
Performed filter modeling and design, and metered harmonics for compliance both before and after installation of additional VFD and existing drive upgrade for a 20,000hp (total) gas compression station.
Sectionalizing and Load Flow Studies
Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association, Fort Collins, Colorado, 2001-2002:
Upgraded and improved the existing Milsoft WindMil model for the PVREA distribution and transmission system. Performed system studies for voltage drop, load flow, short circuit, sectionalizing, and long range planning. Recommended recloser, fuse, and relay applications and settings for entire distribution system and substations.
National Wind Technology Center Harmonic Analysis
National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, Colorado, 1998-2003:
Metered currents and voltages and sequenced various experimental loads and generators to verify harmonic performance at the NWTC. Generation includes 750kW synchronous and induction wind turbines, and 4500hp VFD/Dynamometer with filter. Prepared recommendations and designs for application of various generator test specimens at the Dynamometer, covering protection and transformation from 13.2kV to 480V, 800V, and 4160V.
